MDRD eGFR Calculator

Estimates GFR from serum creatinine — the original standard equation for CKD staging

eGFR (MDRD)

Enter values to calculate eGFR.

Formula

eGFR = 175 × Scr−1.154 × Age−0.203 × 0.742 (if female) × 1.212 (if Black)

Clinical Notes

  • MDRD was designed for patients with CKD and underestimates GFR when eGFR >60. CKD-EPI is preferred for values in this range.
  • Cockcroft-Gault CrCl is used for drug dosing adjustments, while MDRD/CKD-EPI eGFR is used for CKD staging and classification.
  • CKD-EPI 2021 is now the preferred equation for eGFR — see the CKD-EPI eGFR calculator.
  • The race coefficient is included here for historical accuracy of the original MDRD equation. The 2021 CKD-EPI equation removed race from the calculation.
